News From the Director

by Jae Walker,
Living Force Campaign Director
Rebellion Era Sourcebook

As I write this, the Living Force Campaign Guide is in stores. We put a lot of thought and work into this book, and we hope you find it interesting and helpful. Next time you run into Morrie Mullins, tell him what you think of it! Note that it is a snapshot of the Cularin system at the start of the campaign, and things may change...

One question I've seen frequently regarding the book is: So, just where is the Cularin system? The back of the book says it's on the Outer Rim, but it's actually on the border between the Mid Rim and the Expansion Region, just off the Corellian Trade Spine. The inside of the book gives the correct location.

Living Force has been seeing a great deal of convention play (something we're very happy about) and naturally that's given rise to a number of questions and some errata.

Passports and Stickers
Instead of log sheets, Living Force uses nifty little passports to track which scenarios your character has played. Dave Mendez from the Wizards Promotions Department had this brilliant notion, and we love it, even though it means we have to have our release schedule set about a year in advance. It was also very popular with everyone who played at Winter Fantasy.

The very nice, numbered passports issued at Winter Fantasy were a special marketing effort for the launch. Thus, they were only available to attendees of Winter Fantasy who played Living Force events. Attend the convention next year if you want to get a cool one, but for this year, if you don't have one you can get one from two other sources. First, there is a passport in Star Wars Gamer #2. You can also download a version of it on the Character Creation page of the Living Force website.

We have had a delay in producing the stickers for the passports, but they will all be ready in late April. Our intention is, once the stickers are available, to go over the convention records and send out stickers to everyone who has played the various scenarios. This is a huge effort, so it will be one-time-only, covering conventions that did not receive stickers. For this to be effective, HQ needs to have your current mailing address -- you might want to log on to the Member Area and make sure that the RPGA has your correct address. Also, this will depend on your convention coordinators getting their scoring packets entered in a prompt and timely fashion. If we don't know that you played, we can't send you stickers! If all else fails, I will be carrying a supply of stickers with me, so if you can catch me at a convention and I haven't run out, I'll be happy to apply your sticker for you. Have your GM sign the sticker's box on the passport anyway, so I know that you need one.

Metagaming
Many of the players who attended Winter Fantasy applied for various metagaming opportunities (Jedi Masters, Force Adept Apprentices, droids, special favors, and miscellaneous other requests). Please rest assured that we are working on these. Our Metagaming Administrator, Colleen Lahna, had her first child on Valentine's Day. If you put in a request, you may have already received email from her. As soon as we can, we'll send them off to you.

Ships
We are still waiting for preliminary materials on ships to begin setting this up. We are aware of the ships from Star Wars Gamer and are reviewing them for appropriateness to the Living Force campaign.

Credit Check
In case the information hasn't reached you any other way, the Living Force campaign uses "Republic Credit Chips" to help the heroes keep track of how much money they earn/spend. These are little slips that fit nicely into your passport, with your current balance and spaces at the bottom where you can keep track of what you earn and spend during a scenario. At the end of the scenario, the GM issues you a new credit chip with your current balance.

So why do this in a heroic campaign like Star Wars? Well, we let people save up to buy things, some of them big-ticket items like ships. Since we don't have log sheets, we need some mechanism for telling when you can afford such things, and thus the Republic Credit Chips were born.

Ordering Living Force Scenarios
In my last column, I told you to email me if you want to order Living Force scenarios... Let me now give you the correct procedure for ordering Living Force scenarios. If you've written to me requesting scenarios and you haven't received a reply yet, use this procedure.

1. You must be a Guild-level or Family member of the RPGA to order scenarios for any event, whether it's a Convention, Game Day, or Home Play.

2. The scenario must be available for the class of event (Convention, Game Day/Retail, Home Play) you plan to run. Living Force scenarios are released at a rate of one per month (with the exception of January, when we release an entire trilogy for Winter Fantasy). Conventions may order scenarios the month they are released, and have exclusive access to them for the first three months they are available. During the fourth month, Game Days and Retail events may order the scenarios. Finally, during the fifth month they become available for Home Play.

So... if you want to order Eye of the Sun (released in January) to play at home, you can do so beginning in May. If you're running a Game Day, you can order it beginning in April.

3. Order Living Force scenarios the same way you order any other scenarios. Sign on to the Member's Area and choose "Request Scenarios." If the scenario you want to order doesn't appear in the list, email HQ requesting the scenario for your event. In that email, be sure to include the event code RPGA assigns you.

May the Force Be With You!
